A Little Quiz

The BBC are carrying this story about Chicago shutting down some public services to save money. Sadly, the chances of this happening here are almost zero, although I guess strikes would have the same effect, so game on.

In true silly season spirit, I am starting a quiz to ask what local (Richmond Borough) or national government services you would be happy to see shut down once a week? Best answers get a gold star.

My suggestions: parking wardens, inland revenue.

Sacred Cows

Do you remember the blog post I wrote back in January 2008 on Conformist Liberalism? Well, ne’er a truer word was spoken and more than ever I stand by my argument.

I have listened to Dan Hannan’s interview on US TV, which has created such uproar. I must congratulate the Left on mobilising the media and perverting the story to be something it is not.

Whilst politicians set the stage for the forthcoming General Election, public debt goes up, unemployment goes up and tax receipts continue to fall. These things don’t wait for an election.

One Thing Nationally and Another Locally

Oh dear. Classic LibDem silly season story alert.

According to the BBC, they have asked for tighter controls on Government surveillance.

That’s lovely. Perhaps they’d like to make a start by getting rid of their hated spycars that patrol the borough? The same spycars that Vince Cable has spoken against in Parliament, but remained silent on locally?
