Ming’s metrics

Just in case there are any readers of this site still under the impression that LibDem statistics are worth even the paper they’re written on, please have a look at Ming’s election announcement today, as reported on the BBC.

Floods and development

The events of the last week have been tragic and frightening for many residents in the borough, although thankfully Twickenham and Teddington have not been the worst affected areas in the country, and my thoughts go out to those people in the Midlands who still do not have access to power or running water.

The breaking news is that homes in the Teddington and Hampton Courts areas of the borough have now been put on flood alert.

Low-Tax Liberals? I think not…

Sir Ming came out with his killer punch the other day - a proposal to reduce the basic tax rate by 4p to 16p in the pound. Marvelous, said many people, including a number of Conservatives - why can’t we do that?

As I saw the news, however, I did a double take - hang on, didn’t Ming’s old friend Gordon Brown try this trick a couple of months ago at the budget - reducing a headline-grabbing tax, to mask big tax hikes elsewhere? So we did some work and this is what we found…

Vince’s fiefdom

The LibDems have been delivering their local “Journal” to residents. If you look on page 3, you will see a story entitled “Tories give up the fight for Twickenham”.

The BNP in Whitton

I was kindly contacted today by a constituent, who told me the following:

“I wonder if I might bring your attention to a worrying development in Whitton. For the first time that I can remember the BNP delivered leaflets to our street (Hall Farm Drive) last night. I am, as I am sure you are, very concerned to see the far right in my neighbourhood. I wonder if it might be possible for you to spread the word to your colleagues so that the BNP threat in this area is taken seriously and eradicated as soon as possible.”

This is extremely worrying news and I am a firm believer that extremism in any form must not be allowed to develop in any part of the constituency.

I would urge readers and supporters to help me deliver a positive, tolerant message in Whitton, so that the BNP do not make a foothold here.

If anyone anywhere else in the constituency hears of any more BNP activity, please contact me on this site, or
