Contrary to what I had previously believed, it appears that Vince Cable (and Susan Kramer) voted WITH the Government to give themselves an extra £10,000 of your money as a “communications” allowance. This is nothing short of themselves voting for a spin slush fund.
Note that Kramer and Cable voted for the allowance despite senior LibDems such Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne opposing it and other Liberals having serious concerns about the increase it will have on Parliamentary running costs.
Could Vince Cable’s greed be related to the fact that there is a good chance Twickenham will turn Blue again at the next election and he needs all the help he can get?
As I have said since I heard about this proposal, I will not claim this allowance when I am your MP and would not have voted with the government to bring this in.
First, your local Liberals have been raising council tax to increase their own wages and now your national representatives seem to be doing the same.
Please publicise this scandal, and as I will be doing over the coming few weeks. I want some answers from Vince. That’s the least he can do for us.

Today, Greg Hands, Conservative MP for Hammersmith & Fulham has launched a scathing attack on MPs’ plans to vote for a £10,000 per year “communications” allowance for themselves. Continue reading ‘Fancy £10k of taxpayers’ money?’
A big thank you to Twickenham Conservative Association and all of those residents who turned up to tonight’s primary. A special thank you as well goes to Stephan Shakespeare for taking the time out to interrogate us so thoroughly, James, our agent and to the stewards for arranging and hosting the event so seamlessly.
I am honoured to have been selected to be your candidate and am looking forwards to representing you and making sure this shambolic Liberal council and MP are held to account.
We deserve better from our elected representatives and I will campaign on all your behalves for a better, greener and safer Twickenham, Teddington, Whitton and Hamptons.
Thank you once again - let the campaign begin!

Gordon Brown has just sat down after delivering his 11th and probably last budget. The 2007 budget was Gordon’s 100th tax rise!
In it, he played his usual trick of teasing us with some headline-grabbing tax cuts - basic rate of income tax down from 22p to 20p; corporation tax down from 30p to 28p. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
Well, let’s look at the detail… Continue reading ‘Gordon’s 100th tax rise’
